Strategic mission and vision
The mission of Ventspils University of Applied Sciences for 2021–2027 is to provide modern, labour-market-oriented, research-based, and accessible education for everyone, as well as to become a platform for excellence and innovation in education, where young specialists discover their talents and where knowledge is shared by professionals.
The development of Ventspils University of Applied Sciences is already purposefully directed towards becoming a technology and development-oriented, competitive European-level university that makes a significant contribution to the advancement of education and science internationally. This direction is part of the university’s vision — to be a digitally open and accessible, internationally recognized institution that makes a substantial contribution to the development of science and the economy.
Research and infrastructure
Ventspils University of Applied Sciences conducts research across a broad spectrum of disciplines, including natural sciences (particularly astronomy and physics), social sciences (economics, business, management), and humanities (linguistics, translation, and intercultural studies). The university’s research infrastructure is centered around the Engineering Research Institute “Ventspils International Radio Astronomy Centre”, featuring two unique parabolic radio telescopes – RT-32 and RT-16 – used for both fundamental radio astronomy research and applied projects in satellite communications and space technologies. The LOFAR antenna field in the settlement of Irbene integrates Ventspils University of Applied Sciences into the European-scale low-frequency radio astronomy network, providing researchers with access to unique data and an international research environment.
Ventspils University of Applied Sciences infrastructure also includes high-performance computing (HPC) clusters that support research in astronomy, astrochemistry, computer science, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, enabling efficient processing of large data volumes and simulations.
