Reshaping the Research Vista with ResearchComp

The NextTechTalents project team of the Babeș-Bolyai University will organize two major events to advance the objectives of the European Research Area and ResearchComp matrix.

 

In tune with the objectives of the NextTechTalents project, and aiming at widening the reach of the ResearchComp framework in the community of Early Career Researchers, Babeș-Bolyai University (UBB) will organise, on the 28th of May 2026, a hands-on course in Operating Open Source Software. The event is organised within the framework of the project, as part of the Cluj Innovation Days 2026, the main annual event dedicated to innovation in the city of Cluj-Napoca. The venue of the event will be the Radisson Blu Hotel, Central Park Hall,  Cluj-Napoca. The course will be held by Ivar Grimstad, Jakarta EE Developer Advocate at Eclipse Foundation, with 28 years of experience in the field. He is a Java Champion and JUG Leader based in Sweden. Eclipse Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that offers support for a global community of developers and manages 400+ open-source projects. An introduction to the course will be delivered by dr. Rosaria Rossini, Senior Research Project Manager at the Eclipse Foundation.

Through the hands-on course, the Early Career Researchers will have the opportunity to acquire hard skills in Open Source software, learn how to integrate the Open Source developers community, co-create the software and optimise it for their needs, to network with alike Early Career Researchers and established specialists and create the basis of a continuous hard skills acquirement and enhancing system.

Two days later, on May 30th 2026, Cluj IT cluster in collaboration with Babeș-Bolyai University will organize a round table on Skill-Building at the Intersection of Culture and Tech, held in the multicultural village of Sâncrai/Kalotaszentkirály/ Heilkönig Sehngrall. The round table will offer the occasion for an in-depth reflection and discussion on the developments of Deep Tech in multi-cultural environments, the impact of Tech on multiculturalism, the way cultural differences translate in the approach to Deep Tech skills building and the role of humanistic culture in integrating technology and arts.

NextTechTalents- „Establish a Talent Ecosystem to Increase the Competences and Future Employability of Early-Stage Researchers Emphasising the Deep Tech Sector” is a WIDERA project aimed at creating a robust and sustainable talent ecosystem, fostering talent circulation across sectors and enhancing employability and mobility, thus furthering the goals of the European Research Area. Babeș-Bolyai University’s project core team consists of: dr. Mihaela Aluaș, Physics researcher at the „Ioan Ursu” Physics Research Institute and president of the Research Ethics Comitee of the Babeș-Bolyai University– project manager, and dr. Horațiu Damian, tech transfer officer at the UBB TechTransfer Center– assistant manager.
